The Dean of the Faculty of Science of the University of Ostrava announces a selection procedure to fill the following vacancy
- Independent Researcher in the field of human geography and/or local and regional development and sustainability transition – project "REFRESH – Research Excellence For Region Sustainability and High-tech Industries"
The above mentioned position is to be filled within the framework of the project "REFRESH – Research Excellence For Region Sustainability and High-tech Industries", reg. no. CZ.10.3.01/00/22_003/0000048, Research Programme Social Lab 1 Governance of Sustainability Transition by a foreign or Czech researcher with excellent scientific results in the field of human geography and urban, local and regional development studies; and/or sustainability transition studies and governance on an international scale with a high contribution to this investigated research area.

Job Description
- Independent researcher detemines the direction of reseach, development and innovation activities in the relevant field
- Solves demanding research tasks with a major international impact in the field, contributes significantly to the development of the field
- Publishes actively according to the requirements of the field
- Coordinates/manages science-research activity in the field human geography and/or sustainability transition
Qualifications and other requirements
- A holder of the Professor degree or a holder of Associate Professor degree (appointments outside the Czech Republic must be recognized in accordance with the valid regulations of the Czech Republic or relevant international treaties), solves demanding research tasks with a major international impact on the given field, publishes actively, coordinates/manages science-research activity
- Doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in human geography or a related field (in the case of Ph.D. degree obtained abroad, recognition of the foreign university degree will be required)
- EU research level: R3 – Established/R4 – Leading (research group), at least 10 years of postdoctoral research experience
- Independent researcher with extensive experience in the field of human geography and urban, local and regional development studies; and/or sustainability transition studies and governance
- Deep knowledge and work capabilities in the field of economic geography and statistical methods will be preffered
- For FORD 1,3,5: 4x Jimp, for FORD6: min. 8 publications of type Jimp, Jsc, B, C, where the outputs are comparable to the international research level (the most significant are those where the researcher/worker is the main author, or Q1 and Q2 journals; for FORD 3, 5 and 6 possible recalculation 1xB = 4x Jimp, yet the book must be published in a corresponding scientifically recognized publishing house), references to preprints may be included if publicly available (preprints must be suitably referenced with either a link to the preprint or a DOI).
- H-index of the researcher min. 3 (FORD 1,3,5), 2 WOS/4 Scholar (FORD6). Alternatively, 35 documented citations of own works
- Documented involvement in projects of basic/applied/contractual research or development projects (minimum of 2 projects). Alternatively, international internships totalling 3 months
- Fluent English, comparable to Level B2, knowledge of other languages an advantage
- Independent, responsible and creative approach to work
Estimated amount of work
- 1 Vacancy at 1.0 FTE
Expected start date
- May 1st, 2024 (or by agreement)
- Fixed-term contract for full-time 100%
Wage conditions
- According to the Internal Wage Regulations of the University of Ostrava and for the Independent Researcher in the REFRESH project, i.e. 1.0 FTE = 2.600 EUR before tax + bonuses for fulfilled tasks

The first round of the selection procedure will involve the assessment of the materials submitted by the candidates. Only selected candidates will be invited to take part in a second round of remote interviews.
